MORONGO BASIN HEALTHCARE DISTRICT CELEBRATES NATIONAL COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER WEEK

The Morongo Basin Healthcare District is celebrating National Community Health Center Week, August 7 through August 13. Health centers started as a pilot project during President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty and have grown into the country’s largest primary care network. More than 24 million Americans use more than 9,000 health care centers across the nation. One in every fourteen people living in the United States looks to a community health center for their care. The Morongo Basin Healthcare District operates two health centers known as Hi-Desert Family Health Clinics, with offices in Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley. The clinics provide primary, specialty and dental care to the residents of the Morongo Basin regardless of the patient’s ability to pay. Medi-Cal and most insurances are accepted. Discounted fees are available based on household size and income. Services of the healthcare district include the Hi-Desert Family Health Clinics with offices in Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley; and LIFT Transportation Services, providing free, non-emergency transportation to medical appointments.
