MISSING 70-YEAR-OLD YUCCA VALLEY MAN FOUND SAFE IN BANNING

UPDATE 2 p.m.:

Bud Main was located by the California Highway Patrol this morning in Banning. He was found in good health. His caregiver said that someone had given him a cane and he had been treated very kindly by those people he met in his adventure. His caretaker said he learned that Main is not as disabled as he believed him to be.

His caregiver also had effusive praise for the Sheriff’s Department, who responded right away to search for Main, and called out a helicopter immediately. The Citizens on Patrol were searching for Main past midnight last night. His caregiver said that at every business he went to on Thursday to ask if they’d seen Main, he was told Sheriff’s deputies had already been there. He also thanked his neighbors who helped in the search, saying that the Sheriff’s Department and the entire community stepped up to help in the search for Bud Main.

The Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in searching for a missing Yucca Valley man. Bud Main, 70, walked away from his home in the 7400 block of Acoma Trail sometime between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m Thursday. He is described as a white male, 5-feet, 11 inches tall, with thinning brown and white hair, and wearing eyeglasses, although he is wearing his reading glasses and not his regular glasses. He walks with a limp but did not take his cane, nor his baseball cap that he usually wears. He is in the early stages of dementia and takes prescribed medications. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, black sweatpants (possibly with the word “California” written down the side), and slippers. He has no means of transportation. Bud Main is said to be quite outgoing and likes to talk about his career in the movie and television business. He is originally from the Big Bear area and has only been living in Yucca Valley for about four months. The Sheriff’s Department did an extensive search for him Thursday night, including with a helicopter for over an hour. He is said to be afraid of law enforcement. If you see Bud Main, the Sheriff’s Department asks that you call 760-956-5001 and keep him in sight until deputies arrive.
