The Secretary of the Navy announced Thursday that he is expanding paid maternity leave for Marines and sailors to 18 weeks. The new policy is retroactive to January 1. While new mothers are eligible for the extended leave, the extended maternity leave for adoptive mothers and parental leave is not affected, as their leaves must be changed by Congress.
