MASSIVE $48 MILLION STATE ROUTE 62 PROJECT BEGINS MONDAY

The $48 million mill and overlay project will take place on two stretches of Highway 62: from Indian Canyon Road in Riverside County to Yucca Mesa Road in Yucca Valley, and from Bermuda Avenue to 0.6 miles west of Utah Trail in Twentynine Palms. Work will take place Mondays through Fridays starting April 5 through summer 2023, with varying work hours. Next week, the contractor will be working from Bermuda Ave. (PM 29.30) to Athol Ave. (PM 33.59) from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. until April 9. Weekend work is not anticipated at this time. This project will cold plane the existing asphalt pavement and overlay with rubberized HMA-Gap graded (RHMA-G) pavement, replace existing asphalt dike, construct raised curb median at SR-62 and Balsa Ave, construct sidewalk at SR-62 and Dryden Ave, upgrade and reconstruct various ADA curb ramps, improve pavement striping, marking and roadside signage. Additionally, certain existing signal and lighting systems will receive upgrades along with installing pedestrian hybrid beacon systems at SR-62 and Park Ave and SR-62 and Tamarisk Ave intersections.
