MARINE CORPS ANNOUNCES TRAINING TIME FOR LAND USE IN THE JOHNSON VALLEY AREA

The United States Marine Corps has announced it has shortened the time it needs for military training in the Johnson Valley Shared Use Area. Originally, the shared use area was to be closed for the entire month of August while the Marines conducted a large-scale exercise. The Marine Corps announced recently that it will only need two weeks for its training exercise, from August 11 through August 25. The two-week closure includes the time required to ensure the area is clear of recreational activity prior to training, and that the area is free of military hazards after the training has been completed before it’s re-opened to the public. The adjacent Johnson Valley OHV Recreation Area will remain open to the public during the closure of the Shared Use Area. The Marine Corps is required to announce a year in advance when it expects to use the shared use area, and it has set the dates for next year’s exercise as August 1-30. A map of the area can be seen at a link in this story at z1077fm.com.
