MARIJUANA FARMS RAIDED IN TWENTYNINE PALMS AND LANDERS

More than 350 marijuana plants and 200 pounds of pot were seized during raids by the Sheriff’s Department at two illegal marijuana growing operations Friday. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Marijuana Enforcement operation went to a home in the 1800 block of Cypress Lane in Landers where they arrested five men who were in the process of preparing the marijuana to be packaged for sale. Many of the suspects had fake medical marijuana cards in the attempt to deceive deputies that the operations were legitimate. Deputies seized 223 marijuana plants and 200 pounds of processed marijuana in Landers. Arrested and booked for cultivation and possession of marijuana for sales were J. Cruz Herrera, 33, of Perris; Juan Villasenor, 43, of Los Angeles; Francisco Trejo, 28, of Hollister; Huber Ortiz, 25, of Romoland; and Walter Sequeiria, 46, of Arvin. They were booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with their bail set at $50,000 each. Deputies also went to the 4200 block of Canyon Road in Twentynine Palms where they seized 157 marijuana plants. Carlos Moreno, 50, of Twentynine Palms, told deputies the owner hired him to watch over and care for the property and that he had minimal responsibilities when dealing with and caring for the marijuana plants. The district attorney’s office will review whether to file charges against Carlos Moreno. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the two illegal marijuana grow locations were not related to each other.
