MARCH, CLOSURES, AND FREE PARKS HONOR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. TODAY

Civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. is honored today across the country and here in the Morongo Basin in Twentynine Palms. The Twentynine Palms Bible Baptist Church held its annual march Today. The one-mile march celebration started promptly at 8 a.m. at Little Church of the Desert, 6079 Adobe Road and ended at Palms Southern Baptist Church, 5285 Adobe Road, in Twentynine Palms. Following the march was a program with local speakers, music, and free refreshments.

Government offices, banks, schools, and post offices will be closed today, Monday, January 20, in observance of Martin Luther King Junior Day. Copper Mountain College will resume its normal operating hours on Tuesday, January 21.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the national park service is waving entrance fees for 110 national parks across the country, including our Joshua Tree National Park, today, January 20. Camping and reservation fees will still be collected as normal. Fee-free days are an opportunity to take advantage of scenic hikes and views, and to enjoy the desert, day or night. Prepare accordingly with a backpack, water, sunscreen, hat, and snacks. Pack up your family, bring a camera, and enjoy a free visit to your beautiful desert park.
