MAN WHO DIED IN A TWENTYNINE PALMS SWIMMING POOL IDENTIFIED

The County Coroner has identified the man who died in a swimming accident early Tuesday morning. LeShawn Etheridge, 38, of Norfolk, Virginia, had dropped his phone into the pool in the 72300 block of Larrea Avenue and jumped in after it about 1:43 a.m. Tuesday morning. The woman he was with said he didn’t come up, and she was pregnant and couldn’t pull him out herself. The responding deputy jumped into the pool to rescue Etheridge, and performed CPR on him until paramedics arrived. The medics continued CPR as LeShawn Etheridge transported him to Hi-Desert Medical Center, but he was pronounced deceased at 2:35 a.m. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
