MAN ESCAPES INJURY IN ROLL-OVER CRASH IN MORONGO VALLEY WEDNESDAY

A Joshua Tree man escaped serious injury when his pick-up truck rolled over in Morongo Valley Wednesday afternoon. Morongo Valley Fire Department Captain Jeff Rarey said the man was driving eastbound on Highway 62 when he fell asleep at the wheel about 4:19 p.m. The truck drifted over to the right shoulder, hit the dirt berm, and rolled over multiple times, before landing on its roof in the highway near North Star Avenue. The driver—and sole occupant of the truck—had gotten himself out of the truck when firefighters arrived. He suffered only minor scrapes and bumps and refused transport to a hospital to be checked out. Both eastbound lanes were blocked for about an hour as the scene was cleaned up. Rarey said that eastbound traffic was diverted into a turn lane to get around the crash, but that multiple “looky-loo” drivers hit the delineators just past the intersection as they merged back onto the highway.
