MAN ARRESTED FOR CAR THEFT, WARRANTS IN YUCCA VALLEY

A Los Angeles man was arrested in Yucca Valley Saturday after he was found driving a stolen car. According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies were alerted to a black Honda Passport traveling northbound on Old Woman Springs Road. Callers said the driver was driving recklessly, into oncoming traffic and onto the shoulder about 8:30 a.m. The driver, later identified as James Blankenship, 34, turned eastbound onto Buena Vista before turning southbound on Yucca Mesa Road and was finally stopped by a deputy at Yucca Mesa and Memory Lane. A records check found that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Hesperia. Blankenship told the deputy he had purchased the Honda from an unknown woman Friday for $900, about half of what the car was worth, but had no documentation to support his claim of purchasing the car. In addition, the deputy discovered a shaved Isuzu key that was used to start the Honda. James Blankenship was arrested for investigation of receiving stolen property, and on four warrants for his arrest for various drug charges. Blankenship was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $162,000.
