LUCERNE VALLEY SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEE FACING RECALL

A Lucerne Valley school board trustee who has been censured twice by the school board is facing a recall election in February. Dawn Turnbull was elected to the Lucerne Valley Unified School District in 2010, but was censured in March for posting derogatory comments about school board members, district administrators, and community members on her Facebook page. She was censured a second time in July for walking out of school board meetings and for defying board directives. She has been absent from school board meetings for several months, and has refused requests from the school board to resign from the board. An earlier recall petition was ruled invalid by the San Bernardino County Elections Office due to an incorrect address listed by one of the petitioners. The Elections Office certified a second recall petition and the school board set an election date of February 2. Voters will be asked whether they want to recall Dawn Turnbull; they will also have the option of voting for a replacement. Voters may vote for a successor regardless of how they vote for the recall.
