LOTS OF TALK, NOT MUCH ACTION AT 29 PALMS CITY COUNCIL MEETING

The Twentynine Palms City Council met last night with lots on its plate, but not on its spoon. Reporter David Haldane was there and explains…
There was lots of discussion, but not much action. That was the tone of the Twentynine Palms City Council meeting last night, where only one vote was taken. It was to allow churches and storage containers in public land use districts where previously only government-owned properties were allowed. The unanimous vote—described as a “cleanup item”—was necessary to correct an inadvertent omission in the city’s development code.
In less decisive fashion, the Council also referred potential modifications of accessory structure regulations to the Planning Commission and heard public input on establishing a Tourism Business Improvement District. That controversial proposal—which would involve fee assessments—is set to be heard next month.
Finally, the Council reviewed the city’s preliminary general fund budget for the next two years. The good news: It’s balanced!
