Twentynine Palms Recreation all-star teams brought home some hardware from the Needles basketball tournament. All six teams finished in the top three of their respective divisions. The third- and fourth-grade boys and the fifth- and sixth-grade boys came in third place. The seventh-grade boys, seventh- and eighth-grade girls, and eighth-grade boys all brought home second place trophies. The fifth- and sixth-grade girls, led by most valuable player Kate Bobadilla, and All Tournament selection Breyonna Bell dominated the competition while beating host Needles in the championship game.

Jenica Silvas (third- and fourth-grade boys), Micah Deibert (fifth- and sixth-grade boys), Alex Burns and Marc Hightower (seventh-grade boys), Carveona Garner and Jhordan Stanley (seventh- and eighth-grade girls), Troy Tuivaiti and Ray Sisneros (eighth-grade boys) were selected to their All Tournament Teams for their excellent play. Next up for the teams will be the Big Bear Tournament this weekend, followed by Beaumont or Redondo Beach for some teams. The 58th annual Twentynine Palms Tournament will take place April 1, 2, and 3 this year. If interested in volunteering contact the Recreation Office at 760-367-7562.
 
The Twentynine Palms High School varsity golf team kicked off their season on Monday. The Wildcats hosted the Coachella Valley High School Arabs and came away with a win 261 to 291. Head golf coach Gary Bell said the season opener was played in harsh conditions, with rain, wind, and mid-40 degree temperatures. Low scorers for the Wildcats were Justin Delarosa with a 46, and Hayden Shupp shooting 47.
 
On Friday, March 4, the Twentynine Palms Wildcat boys’ varsity tennis team traveled to PGA West to play the Arabs of Coachella Valley. The Wildcats suffered a loss to a seasoned Coachella Valley team, dropping the non-league match 6-12. Coach Bill Shay said John Lanza led the team by sweeping all three of his matches. Singles player Ben Pressnall won his first varsity match, along with double players Brett Hope, Nathan Thomas, Manny Rodriquez and Nicholas Champion winning their first varsity match. 
 
Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Twentynine Palms High School golf team will host Palm Valley High School at home. Tee off is at 2:45.
 
The Wildcat track team will host Rancho Mirage High School at home. The meet starts at 3:15.
