LOCAL DEMOCRAT AND REPUBLICAN MEETINGS AND PROJECTS

At Saturday morning’s meeting of the Morongo Basin Democratic Club, officers will lead a planning session aimed at charting the course of the organization through the 2016 presidential election. Local Democrats are encouraged to bring their visions for the future direction of the Club. Also on the agenda are proposed changes to the bylaws and committee assignments. Fellowship and a $10 breakfast begin at 9 a.m.; the meeting and work session begin at 10 a.m. Also on Saturday, turn in your CRV beverage containers to the Fundraising Committee. It all happens at Bruce’s Coyote Kitchen on the Copper Mountain College campus in Joshua Tree.

Morongo Basin Republicans are offering an essay scholarship to assist graduating high school seniors. Public, private or home school students are eligible. The essay topic is “What the U.S. Constitution means to me.” The essay should reflect the applicant’s knowledge of the Constitution and what it means to all U.S. citizens. The winning essay award is $300. The winning essay will then be sent for review for county competition. The county award is $300. Winners will then be sent on to California Republican Women, Southern Division. Their awards are $1,500 for first place and $1,000 for second place.
