LANDERS MAN INJURED IN HIT-AND-RUN INVOLVING DIRT BIKE SUNDAY

The California Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in a hit-and-run crash involving a dirt bike in Landers Sunday afternoon. About 2:25 p.m., an unknown man was driving was described by witnesses as a silver or gray Saturn southbound on Sage Avenue at about 20 to 25 miles per hour. At the same time, Shane Harper, 21, of Landers was riding his 2008 Kawasaki eastbound on Encantado Road at about 60 to 70 miles per hour. Both vehicle entered the intersection at the same time and crashed. Harper was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs with major injuries. The driver of the Saturn fled in a southbound direction prior to the arrival of CHP. The man was described as white, about 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, long hair to his shoulders, a tan hat, and wearing blue jeans. The car was described as having major damage to the passenger side and a broken rear window. It was spotted driving in the area about an hour later.
