LANDERS COUPLE SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS IN DEATH OF 7-YEAR-OLD SON

A Landers couple who pleaded guilty last month to causing the death of their young son due to heat stroke were sentenced to six years in state prison. Paul Warfox, 43, had taken his son out in to the desert in 100-plus degree temperatures in July 2018 to collect firewood. On the way back to the home where the family was squatting, his 7-year-old son Dylin, collapsed. Warfox carried him home and the family took a six-hour nap. When they woke up, Dylin was worse and the family called for an ambulance, but Dylin died on the way to the hospital. Paul Warfox and his wife Misty Warfox, 38, both pleaded guilty to child endangerment causing death. Judge Rodney Cortez sentenced them both Monday to two years for willfully causing or permitting a child to suffer, and four years for willful harm resulting in death. Paul Warfox will be sent to the state prison in Chino; Misty Warfox will serve her six years in Frontera state prison.
