JUVENILE ARRESTED IN BURGLARY OF GUBLER’S ORCHIDS IN LANDERS

A 17-year-old Landers boy was arrested yesterday, accused of burglarizing Gubler’s Orchids in Landers. At 8:05 Thursday morning, an employee entered the retail store of the nursery in the 2200 block of Belfield Boulevard, and discovered the boy hiding inside the store. The boy ran out of the building and started casually walking when he got to the road. The nursery owner, Chris Gubler, saw the boy, and started chasing him in his truck until the boy ran into the wash. Just then, deputies arrived, and tracked the boy to an MBTA bus stop. Figuring the boy had gotten on the bus, they stopped the bus at Hero Market on Old Woman Springs Road and found the alleged thief. The boy is accused of spending the night inside the nursery, and stealing paper towels and rags, orchid grow mix and plant food. The juvenile, who was not identified due to his age, was taken to Juvenile Hall. Damage to the nursery is estimated to be more than $2,000.
