JOSHUA TREE SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATIONAL MEETING SATURDAY

Joshua Tree National Park will hold an informational meeting for new volunteers for the Joshua Tree Search and Rescue team (JOSAR). The meeting will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 2, at the Black Rock Visitor Center in Yucca Valley. JOSAR searches for lost hikers, rescues injured or stranded climbers, and supports park rangers in various visitor safety tasks. No training or experience is required. The Park provides extensive training in land search, tracking, incident management and high-angle rope rescue techniques. To apply you must be: 18 years of age or older; comfortable with heights; physically fit for work in rugged terrain in extreme weather conditions; a team player; available on short notice; composed under stressful situations; and comfortable working around injured people. There will be mandatory skill and physical testing along with minimum attendance and financial requirements for the purchase of personal gear.
