JOSHUA TREE PEDESTRIAN STRUCK AND KILLED CROSSING HIGHWAY

A Joshua Tree man was struck and killed last night walking across State Route 62, just 20 to 30 yards west of a traffic signal with a marked crosswalk. According to the county coroner, at 7:34 p.m., Jonathan Dubois, 25, who was wearing dark-colored clothing, was walking eastbound in the number 1 lane of Highway 62, just west of Park Boulevard in Joshua Tree. The California Highway Patrol says for unknown reasons, Dubois suddenly turned and walked directly into the path of a 2002 Jeep Wrangler, driven eastbound on Highway 62 at about 50 miles per hour by Ricardo Sanchez, 61, of San Diego. Paramedics arrived and performed CPR on Dubois, before taking him to Hi-Desert Medical Center where he died from his injuries. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
