JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK ART EXPO WINNERS

More than 300 people attended the opening reception for the third annual Joshua Tree National Park Art Exposition’s juried art show, held November 13 at the 29 Palms Art Gallery. Out of 100 artist entries, 52 artists were juried into the exhibition, and six received special awards for their work. Kelly Booth of Vallejo was named Artist of Distinction for her photograph “Equalux.” The second-place award went to Valerie Messervy Birkhoff of Grass Valley for her beaded sculpture, “Ouch.” Third place and the Superintendent’s Award went to Jeffrey Skelly of Sunland for his oil painting “Shade in the Oasis.” Barbara Spiller of Yucca Valley was fourth place for her painting, “Kiss the Sky.” Honorable mentions went to John Van Vliet of Joshua Tree for his photo “Flaming Boulders” and Jessica L. Bryant of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, for her watercolor, “Lost Horse Valley.” The artwork will be on display at the art gallery Wednesday through Sunday from 12 to 3 through November 29.
