JOSHUA TREE MAN ACCUSED OF FALSE IMPRISONMENT

A Joshua Tree man was arrested Sunday after a woman said he wouldn’t let her leave her house. About 11:45 a.m. Sunday, deputies were called to the 61500 block of Division Street in Joshua Tree for a disturbance. A woman said she was trying to gather her belongings to leave, but James Pope, 20, who was drunk, took her cell phone and keys and physically prevented her from leaving. She said he also threw multiple items at her, hitting her in the back, as well as throwing her to the ground, and holding her by the wrists to prevent her from leaving. Pope eventually let the woman go when one of her friends showed up at the scene and called for help. Deputies saw visible injuries on the victim from the assaults. James Pope was arrested for investigation of false imprisonment, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at zero dollars.
