JOSHUA BASIN WATER WELL #10: DRAMA 400 FEET UNDERGROUND

Field crews from the Joshua Basin Water District were recently called into action when 400 feet below the sidewalks of Joshua Tree the motor on Well 10 failed. Well 10 had been filling in as the workhorse well in recent months while Well 14, the district’s largest producer by far, was undergoing a major renovation. Reporter Mike Lipsitz offers more detail on this story….

Well 10’s emergency repair and motor replacement saw crews working around the clock. Because the motor was installed more than 400 feet below the road service, the district decided to seize the opportunity and install a new well column, tube, and shaft. Some $98,000 later, water at Well 10 flowed once more, providing seamless service to customers who knew nothing of the water emergency.
