JOSHUA BASIN WATER DISTRICT BOARD MEETS TONIGHT

The Joshua Basin Water District Board of Directors meets tonight. Reporter Mike Lipsitz joins us again, and says one item on the agenda will be setting an annual tax rate for property owners…
The Joshua Basin Water District Board of Directors meets in special session at 7:00 tonight at agency offices on Chollita Road. Tonight, directors aim to establish the annual tax rate for property owners in Improvement District 2. The revenue goes toward paying down $2,000,000 in general obligation bonds that in 1974 voters approved to fund system improvements. The debt will be paid off in 2015. Each year the District sets the rate based on property values provided by the County Assessor. The Tax Collector then charges property owners based on the established rate. The reason for tonight’s special meeting is that the County Assessor left the District a very narrow window between the time they provide the figures on property values and the deadline for the rate to be established. Last year’s rate was $0.0240 (two and four tenths cents) per $100 of assessed value.
