HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT RESULTS IN ARREST FOR POSSESSION OF LOADED FIREARM

A Victorville man with a long history with the law was arrested following a high-speed pursuit Saturday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol, about 9:20 a.m., Officer Jeff McNutt saw a 2005 Suzuki GSX-R traveling southbound on Old Woman Springs Road at more than 80 miles per hour. McNutt attempted a traffic stop near Coleman Road, at which time the motorcycle rider, later identified as Wesley Burrows, 36, accelerated. McNutt started a pursuit and followed Burrows onto eastbound Reche Road, where Burrows’ speed was in excess of 120 miles per hour. Burrows lost control of the motorcycle west of Yucca Mesa Road, and drove onto the eastbound dirt shoulder. Burrows laid the bike down into the dirt and jumped off. McNutt then conducted a high-risk traffic stop at gunpoint, and when back-up officers arrived, took Burrows into custody, at which time they determined that Burrows had in his possession a loaded Smith & Wesson .357 magnum revolver, ammunition, drugs, and drug paraphernalia. Wesley Burrows was arrested for investigation of possession of a loaded firearm, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000.
