HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: SCORES AND SCHEDULES

The Twentynine Palms boys Varsity Wildcats improved their overall record to 1-1-1 with a home win against the visiting Roadrunners from Loma Linda Academy. Coach Nathan Niles said tight team defense and a team-minded spirit propelled the Cats to a dominant 4-1 victory. Keepers KJ Magwood Morton and Kyle Lawrence combined for 10 saves. Sophomore Rhyen Smith scored on assists from Nick and Austun Stowers and Arthur Belmont. Other Wildcats with shots on goal were Belmont, Ryan Stowers, Justin Silvas and Carlos Herrera.

The Yucca Valley High School Girls’ Soccer team traveled to take on West Shores High School Wednesday and dominated the contest with a 9-0 victory. Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach Scott Phillips said Six different girls scored as the Lady Trojans controlled the game with a balanced attack. Senior Nikole Cody recorded the shutout. Stats for the game were:
Junior Alexia Missett: 2 goals, 3 assists
Sophomore Jackie Bolha: 1 goal, 3 assists
Sophomore Liana Jimenez: 2 goals
Freshman Riley Vallo: 2 goals
Senior Esther Obeso: 1 goal
Junior Hayli Mayhood: 1 goal
Sophomore Maria Diaz: 1 assist
Sophomore Linnea Hilderbrand: 1 assist

The Twentynine palms High School Lady Wildcats soccer team extended their winning streak to four games Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory at home against Loma Linda Academy. Coach Richard Sanchez said after taking the lead on an early own goal by the Roadrunners, junior Maggie O’Brien scored off an assist from junior captain Cheyenne Hunsinger before halftime. Senior Maranda Palmer had ten saves in the win. Sanchez said The Wildcat of the Week is senior Erin Babinec. Her solid defensive play has energized the team and helped The Cats play with the lead through much of this win streak.

Coming up in high school sports tomorrow, the Yucca Valley High School girls’ and boys’ soccer teams will travel to Coachella Valley to play Coachella Valley High School. Girls starts at 3:15 p.m. and boys at 5 p.m.

The Yucca Valley High School boys’ wrestling team will host their meet against Big Bear High School at home; meet begins at 5 p.m.

Also tomorrow the Twentynine Palms High School boys’ basketball teams will travel to Cathedral City to play Cathedral City High School. JV tip-off is at 5 p.m., varsity tip-off at 6:30 p.m.
