HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS REPORT

Last night, December 6, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ varsity basketball team was victorious over Palm Desert High School, 60 to 43, in the Rancho Verde Tournament. The win raises the ’Cats’ record to 4 and 1. Coach Tim Sanford said leading the team was Tatiyanna Mackall with a career high 36 points and 12 rebounds. Destiny Dedmon had eight points and six rebounds. Freshman Taylor Scamman chipped in seven points. Wildcat of the Week for girls’ basketball is Tatiyanna Mackall. Mackall is one of the captains on the team. Her leadership, calmness on the court, and outstanding play so far this year have been an inspiration to our young team and the coaches. Wildcat of the week for last week was Hope Culver. Culver is one of the hardest workers on the team; she worked her way up from being a sub last year to a starting position this year. Hope’s positive attitude and tremendous work ethic have provided motivation for the team, starting in the summer, and carrying over to the regular season.

The Twentynine Palms High School boys’ basketball team defeated the Cathedral City High School Lions, 87-46, last night. Coach TJ Stanford said leading the Wildcats in scoring was D’Shaun Barrett with 29 points. Adam Bell had 21 points, with brother Abraham Bell adding 17 and playing outstanding defense. Javier Soriano had 13 points, with fellow senior Ian Duhon having 15 rebounds.  The Wildcats’ next contest will be Monday, December 12, at La Quinta High School.

In high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School girls’ basketball team will participate in the second day of the Notre Dame Big Daddy Classic tournament in Riverside. The tournament starts at 4:30 p.m.

The Twentynine Palms High School girls’ basketball team will also participate in its second day of tournaments: The Rancho Verde Tournament in Moreno Valley, starting at 6 p.m.
