Thursday, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ basketball team raised its record to 2 and 1 with a win over the Beaumont Cougars at the West Valley tournament by the score of 50 to 26. Leading scorers for the Wildcats were Lindsey Scamman with 16 points, Tatiyanna Mackall with 11 points, and Jamie Brann with 11 points. Friday night, the Twentynine Palms girls ended the tournament with a win over Division 2A Redlands East Valley by the score of 64-57. The team’s overall record stands at 3 wins and 1 loss. Coach Tim Stanford says leading scorers Friday night were: Lindsey Scamman with 23 points, Courtney Stanford with 10 points, Tatiyanna Mackall with nine points, Adriann Miller with eight points, and Taylor Tuivaiti with six points. The Wildcats’ only loss in the tournament came to the eventual tournament champion Division 1A Valley View. Sophomore Lindsey Scamman, leading scorer in all four games, earned all-tournament honors.
Yucca Valley High School boys’ soccer kicked off their 2015 – 2016 pre-season with a loss to Xavier Prep. The final score was 2 to 1. Yucca Valley’s only score came off the left foot of senior Andrew Bellucci with an assist from senior Enrique Tamayo.
The Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer team traveled to Palm Desert to open their 2015-16 season against Xavier Prep High School in a non-league game. Coach Scott Phillips said the Lady Trojans played really well, out-shooting the Saints 17 to 10, but fell short by a 2-1 score. Scoring for the Lady Trojans was junior Alexia Missett, with sophomore Linnea Hilderbrand picking up the assist. Freshmen Kelsey Gunkel recorded five saves as goalie.
The Yucca Valley High School boys’ wrestling team won second place at the Barstow 7 team dual tournament this weekend. Domonic Lechner took first and was undefeated. Jake Merritt and Onkar Sandu took second place, and Damien Vasquez, Wade Ingersoll, Gary Koger, Aaron Alexander, and Kian Koedel won third place in their divisions.
