HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

In high school sports, the Twentynine Palms High School varsity boys’ basketball team played against Rancho Mirage High School last night in a packed Richard Casey Gymnasium at Twentynine Palms High School. The Wildcats won 101-85, moving them into first place in the De Anza League at 5-0, 17-7 overall.
Top scorers were:
Senior Abe Bell with 31 points; senior Adam Bell with 22 points; and senior D’Shaun Barrett with 18 points.
 
The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team finished off the first half of De Anza League play with a 91-22 victory over Desert Hot Springs last night in Trojan Gym. Coach Jess Geeson said the Yucca Valley girls jumped out to a 63-15 halftime lead as they improved their league record 4-1 and overall record to 15-5.
Freshman Sara Mills led the attack with 22 points. She was followed by junior Angie Reutgens 19 points, while seniors Zena Yakimow and Kiley Pitts added 16 and 14 points respectively. The team next travels to Coachella Valley High School tomorrow for a 6 p.m. game.
 
Yucca Valley High School boys’ soccer played an away league game against Desert Hot Springs High School. Varsity lost 5 to 1. Junior varsity lost 4 to 0.
The varsity goal was scored by junior forward Fabian Odonell, with an assist from junior midfielder Erick Meneses. Sophomore goalkeeper Conner Slack had 20 saves tonight. Player of the match is Alam Mendoza, Alam played with lots of effort and was a real leader among his teammates.
Coaches said the junior varsity was competitive tonight, but came up short. Player of the match was junior defender Brody Arnhold.

Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer played Desert Hot Springs last night and won in overtime 3 to 0. Goals scored by Riley Vallo 2 goals and Rylee Nutter 1.
 
Coming up in high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School wrestling team will travel away to compete against Rancho Mirage High School. The meet starts at 6 p.m.
