Yucca Valley High School varsity boys’ soccer played a non-conference preseason game Friday, December 8, at Rim of the World High School in Lake Arrowhead and tied; the score was 3 to 3.

YVHS varsity boys’ soccer coach Jorge Rodriguez said player of the match was freshman Carlos Rodriguez-Santos, who scored two goals. Junior midfielder Erick Meneses scored one goal and had two assists. Defender of the match was junior Alam Mendoza. The entire team is playing well as one unit and is becoming more used to each other. The coaching staff is pleased by the effort shown by everyone.

The Yucca Valley High School girls’ soccer team placed third in the second annual Banning High School girls’ soccer tournament this weekend. The Lady Trojans tied Ramona High School Thursday, 1-1. Friday, the girls defeated the Huskies of JW North of Riverside, 3-0. Junior Riley Vallo scored all three goals, giving her a hat trick. Saturday, the Lady Trojans had a decisive win over host Banning High School, 8-0, but lost to El Modena High School 3-1, to end up in third place at the tournament.

In Yucca Valley High School wrestling, Onkar Sandhu placed third at the Scott Davis invitational in Santa Ana, crushing his last opponent with a pin in 36 seconds.

Coach Larry Giron said the wrestling team takes on Desert Mirage in the first league dual meet of the season at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Yucca Valley High School Gym.
