HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycats volleyball team traveled to Desert Hot Springs and came away with a win in three sets. Coach Missy Bond said all the girls saw playtime. Junior varsity volleyball also won in three sets.

The Ladycats were led by junior Lea Speer with eight kills and three ace serves. Senior Lindsey Scamman had eight kills and one block. Junior Gabby Mackall had three kills, four ace serves and 26 assists. Junior Nicole Elmer had four kills. Hope Culver had two back court kills and two ace serves. Breanna Collins also had some nice backrow play. Wildcats of the Week are Gabby Mackall and Lea Speer.

Yucca Valley High School cross-country took part in the first of three DeAnza League meets. The Trojans came away with victories at all four levels and won three of the four individual races.

Leading the way for the junior varsity girls was Morgan Brafford-Novak. She won the race in 25:02. Jazmin Angles was the varsity girls’ winner. She covered the three miles in 21:16. Second place was Taylor Scamman (of Twentynine Palms) in 21:35. Isaiah Wilson of Yucca Valley, edged out teammate Jorge Diaz for the Trojan win. His time was 16:36 to Diaz’s 16:48. Denilson Benavides was the first Trojan junior varsity boy; he placed second in a time of 19:14.

The Yucca Valley High School girls’ varsity tennis team beat Coachella Valley, 10-8. Coach Cindy Miller said the girls are working really hard at each and every practice and this is showing up in the matches.

In singles, Katie Brattain 6-2,6-1, 6-0; Elizabeth Anderson 6-3. In doubles Savannah Beasley and kloee Scacclanoce 6-3, 6-0, 6-1; April Bratcher and Mckenzi Monical 6-4, 6-4; Montana Rowe and Alyssa Synder 6-3. They are now 2-1 in league. Katie, Savannah and Kloee are all undefeated in league play. Keep up the great teamwork.

Coming up in high school sports today, the Twentynine Palms High School girls’ tennis team will host Big Bear High School at home. First serve is at 3:15.
