The Twentynine Palms High School Lady Wildcats’ soccer team finished the 10th annual Lady Rams Soccer tournament at Desert Mirage High School with a record of 1-2. Coach Richard Sanchez said after a hard-fought 3-0 loss to Indio High School Friday afternoon, the ’Cats took the field for a second match, this time against Imperial High School, where senior forward Darrien Rieg scored off an assist from junior midfielder Season Bosch in a 4-1 loss. Saturday morning, goals by freshman forward Reese Allen and senior midfielder Melisa Vasquez (both off assists by junior midfielder Emma Yeager) propelled the ’Cats to victory, 2-0, over Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets. Strong play by senior defenders Gabby Crank, Maggie O’Brien, and varsity captain Lahla Sison anchored the tough Wildcat defense throughout the tournament.

The Yucca Valley High School Varsity Wrestling team placed third out of eight schools at the Barstow Duals tournament, winning five out of seven matches. Coach Larry Giron said individuals who earned a medal were Andrew Reyes, who went undefeated with first place; Trevor Scott, Gabe Contreras and Chris Worrell all won second place medals; Timothy Harris, Julian Henretty, Gary Koger, and Onkar Sandhu won third place. Next up for the Trojans wrestlers is a league match against Rancho Mirage High School in Yucca Valley on Wednesday, December 14, at 5 p.m.

Coming up in high school sports today, the Yucca Valley High School girls’ basketball team will participate in the Notre Dame Big Daddy Classic in Riverside, starting at 7:30 p.m.
