IN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL, A WIN FOR YUCCA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL, LOSS FOR TWENTYNINE PALMS HIGH SCHOOL

The Yucca Valley High School Trojan football team stayed undefeated by defeating a strong Shadow Hills team 21-14. Coach Tim Cannavo said the Trojan defense caused six turnovers against the knights with an interception on goal line to seal the deal by Bradley Soares. Joey Rutherford was all over the field raking up 22 tackles, two sacks and causing two fumbles. On offense, Gabe Sosa had runs of 49 and 50 for a total of 126 yards and one touchdown. QB Bradley Soares was nearly perfect completing 10 of his 12 passes. Next up is a home game Friday against the Rams of Desert Mirage.

A furious rally in the final quarter brought the Twentynine Palms Varsity Wildcats to within one point with five minutes left in the game, but the ’Cats eventually fell on the road to the Big Bear Bears 22-14. With the loss, the Cats fall to 0-1 in league play and Big Bear moves to 2-0 in league. “We have to keep improving each week and focus on Shadow Hills and just play one game at a time,” said Wildctas Coach Ernest Martinez. The ’Cats had several outstanding offensive efforts as Cody Hall and varsity newcomer, Beayahn Carrllo led all rushers with 162 yards combined. Carrllo had a solid game in his first varsity contest with several 20 yard runs. Culver had 38 yards rushing and 64 yards passing, and one touchdown pass for the game. Defensively, Talo Wilson, Richard Williams, Dylan Martinez, and David Falefitu led the ’Cats in tackles. Richard Williams moved up to linebacker in the second half and provided a big spark making several big plays.

The Twentynine Palms High School Frosh-Soph dominated the early game, winning handily 41-6. Colton Meyers, Jimmy Shragge, and Kyle hope scored numerous TDs as the Cats scored early and often. Meyers took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, and Shragge returned a punt for a score as well.
