The Yucca Valley High School Trojan varsity team beat Desert Mirage High School, 52 to 20. The Trojans’ offensive line dominated all night and quarterback Elijah Lynch threw two touchdown passes. Lucas Lopez had a total of five touchdowns and EJ Featherstone had 13 tackles. The Trojans are 1-0 in league and hold an undefeated 6-0 record for the year.

The junior varsity Trojan football team came away with an impressive 41 to 6 victory, over Desert Mirage High School. Ulysses Salazar had two rushing touchdowns to lead the offensive charge. Trojans defense was led by Effren Torres and James Hardaway with seven tackles each. The junior varsity Trojans now stand 1-0 in league and 4-2 overall.

The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat football team took a 37 to 10 halftime lead over the visiting Desert Hot Springs Golden Eagles in route to a 57-24 De Anza league victory Friday night.
The defending Wildcat De Anza league champions scored 14 first quarter points, and 23 second quarter points, while holding the Eagles to only 42 yards rushing in the first half. Junior K.J. Magwood started the scoring on a 15-yard run on the home team’s first drive, taking only three plays to reach the goal line.
Senior Derek Sutherland had an outstanding game with four receptions for 120 yards and two touchdowns. The senior wide receiver accounted for over 230 all-purpose yards, while adding two more interceptions to his division-leading category. Sutherland’s first touchdown was on a 30-yard pass play from senior quarterback Hugh Carpenter on the ’Cats second drive of the game. Carpenter had an outstanding game, completing 12 of 18 passes for 207 yards and four touchdowns.
Carpenter’s next touchdown passes went to senior Gunnar Moss on a key fourth down play. Moss caught a 34-yard touchdown pass to make the score 23-10 with 2:37 left in the second quarter. Moss had recorded a safety earlier in the quarter with a quarterback sack, which set up another short drive for the Wildcats.
The ’Cats would add 14 more points in the final two minutes, thanks to outstanding defensive plays. Junior defensive end Bryton Williams forced a fumble on the Eagles quarterback on the very next offensive series.  Senior defensive tackle Caleb Roy would take the fumble 20 yards for a defensive score, and a 29 to 10 lead.
On the next series, the ’Cats used their time outs and a defensive stand to stop the Eagles on three consecutive plays. On the fourth down punt, junior Hunter Tygart blocked the punt out of the end zone to give the ’Cats two more points, and forced the Eagles to kick off from the 20-yard line.
The Wildcats got the football at their own 40-yard line with 12 seconds left in the half. Carpenter connected with Sutherland on a 60-yard touchdown play with just five seconds left in the half, for a 37-10 halftime lead.
The ’Cats were dominant on defense holding the Eagles to only 73 rushing yards, and forcing three turnovers, including a blocked punt for a safety, and a quarterback sack for a safety. Gunnar Moss, Eneliko Tuli, and Caleb Roy led the Wildcats in total tackles and sacks for the game. Derek Sutherland added two interceptions in an outstanding game.
The Wildcats’ offense accounted for nearly 550 total yards of offense for the contest. K.J. Magwood and Hunter Tygart rushed for 95 and 102 yards for the contest. Junior D’Shaun Barrett had a 60-yard touchdown run in the second half, and Eneliko Tuli added a 14-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter as well. K.J. Magwood scored the final touchdown of the game for the Wildcats on a five-yard run in the last series of the third quarter. The Wildcats’ offensive line—led by Michael Clark, Casey Allen, Caleb Roy, Andrew Wallace, Matt Councell, and Cody Landry—were key to the Wildcats offensive totals.
The ’Cats will travel to Rancho Mirage Friday night to face the Rattlers in a key De Anza league contest. Both teams are 1-0 in league play and 4-2 overall.
The frosh-soph will start the league game at 3:30, as the 6-0 frosh-soph Wildcats look to remain undefeated on the season. The varsity contest will begin at 7:00 p.m, in an important league contest between the teams that finished first and second in the league last season.
