HI-DESERT MEDICAL CENTER BOARD SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT TO TURN OPERATIONS OVER

The Hi-Desert Medical Center Board of Directors will sign a letter of intent by the end of this week, to begin negotiations to affiliate the hospital with Tenet Healthcare Corporation. At its special meeting last Wednesday, the board voted unanimously to enter into a 30-year lease with Tenet, who will manage Hi-Desert Medical Center, the Continuing Care Center, as well as associated programs currently operated by the hospital. Once the letter of intent is signed, both parties will have 90 days to begin a period of due diligence to determine if they want to continue on to the next step to sign a definitive binding agreement. Once the definitive agreement is signed, the healthcare district will work with the County supervisors to plan a mail ballot for late spring. Board President Martie Avels said the decision to affiliate with Tenet is a “legacy decision,” and is one that is also supported by the hospital’s medical staff.
