A Twentynine Palms couple is stuck between a rock and hard place. The rock is a brain tumor that almost killed their young son. The hard place is the year theyâve spent unable to bring him home. Reporter David Haldane has the storyâŚ
The first thing they noticed was the dizziness. Then little Isaiah started throwing up and falling over. A visit to the doctor confirmed the worst; their one-year-old son had an aggressive brain tumor rapidly snuffing out his young life.
The doctors at Loma Linda University Childrenâs Hospital didnât think he would survive the operation that removed it. But two months later, Isaiah woke up and today, at two, is fighting every day to come home.
The problem is that he canât. Thatâs because his parents â Justin Surs and Christine Curington of Twentynine Palms â canât qualify to care for him without a three-month course. And, oh yes, they must live within fifty miles of the hospital, nearly two hours away.
So, the unemployed couple started a Go-Fund-Me campaign to raise enough money to move. And how do they feel after a yearâs separation from their beloved, but sickly, young son?
âItâs hard. I donât want to waste any more time not spending it with him. Honestly, itâs destroying me.â
