A public hearing for a request for approval of a Verizon cell phone tower disguised as a water tower first appeared on the Yucca Valley Planning Commissionâs agenda January 12, and two months and four meetings later, the project is still in limbo. Managing editor Tami Roleff explains whyâŚ
With two commissioners absent at last nightâs planning commission meetingâone due to illness, the other because of the birth of a new grandchildâYucca Valley planning commissioners elected to postpone the public hearing on the Verizon cell phone tower slated for the southwest corner of Aberdeen and Sage Avenue in Yucca Mesa. Representatives from Verizon and more than a dozen residents were at the meeting; however, only one resident chose to speak out against the project last night. The others said they would wait until the issue comes up again at the next planning commission meeting on April 12. Planning commissioners received a petition with about 100 signatures and at least 40 letters protesting the cell phone towerâs design as a water tower and its location.
