GREAT SHAKEOUT

The possibility of an earthquake is NOT on hold during the Federal government shutdown.  Ranger Pam Tripp says, get ready for Great California Shakeout…

Drop, Cover, and Hold On.  On October 17, at 10:17 am, Joshua Tree National Park will participate in the The Great California ShakeOut.  This nationwide earthquake drill helps people in homes, schools, and organizations practice how to be safe during big earthquakes, and provides an opportunity for everyone to improve their overall preparedness. Last year, over 12 million people registered to take part in this important exercise, and many more are expected to be a part of it this year.   If you are visiting the park that day and wish to participate with us, a visitor center is the place to be.  The staff and visitors will simulate the event of an earthquake and how we can be prepared and stay safe.   For more information about how Joshua Tree National Park will participate in the Great Shakeout, call us at 760-367-5500.  However, if you want all the scoop on how to participate on your own, go to the official website at www.shakeout.org.
