FOUR MARINES ARRESTED AFTER A BAR FIGHT AND SHOOTING IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

Four Active duty Marines were arrested following a fight and shots fired outside a Twentynine Palms bar last night. At about 1:31 am, Sunday Morning, sheriff’s deputies responded to a fight involving multiple subjects at the Break N’ Run Bar at 72143 Twentynine Palms Highway. As deputies were responding, they received a description of the suspects as four black male adults who fled the bar in a newer model silver 4-door Nissan. Witnesses said as they left the parking lot one of the occupants of the Nissan held a handgun out the window and fired 4-5 rounds into the air. The car turned East onto Twentynine Palms Hwy. Many business patrons and some employees were in the parking lot during the shooting. Deputy Jared Dominick saw a vehicle matching the description traveling east on Twentynine Palms Highway which turned into the Denny’s restaurant parking lot in Downtown Twentynine Palms. Deputy Dominick immediately conducted a felony traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle which was occupied by four black male subjects matching the description. Additional deputies arrived on scene and all four subjects were taken out the vehicle at gunpoint and detained pending further investigation. A search of the vehicle revealed two semi automatic handguns in the passenger areas of the vehicle. Further investigation revealed additional evidence at the scene. Passenger Michael Jolly was arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm, and driver Richard Harris and the two additional passengers, Corderous Mahone and Craig Chapman, were arrested for being accessories to a felony. Michael Jolly, 24, Richard Harris, 26, Corderous Mahone, 26, and Craig Chapman, 24 were identified as Marines stationed at the Twentynine Palms Marine Base. All four were transported to the Morongo Basin Jail. Jolly was booked for Investigation of Negligent discharge of a firearm likely to cause injury or death and held on $50,000 bail. Harris, Mahone and Chapman were booked for Investigation of Accessory to a Felony and booked with bail set at $25,000 each.
