FOUND DOG TRACED TO TWO OWNERS

On August 15, Yucca Valley Animal Officer Kim Casey responded to an early morning Sheriff’s report regarding an injured dog that had been rescued by a citizen. The Lhasa/Terrier mix was transported to the vet for care and had suffered minor injuries. In an effort to locate the dog’s owner, Officer Casey scanned the dog for a microchip. She found one, and the information indicated that the dog belonged to a family in Palm Springs. When Officer Casey contacted the owner by phone, she discovered that the dog had been lost and had been missing for 12 years. A Palm Springs couple had adopted the dog in 2001, and they were devastated when the dog went missing just days after they had taken her home. The following day, the Yucca Valley Animal Shelter was contacted by a woman in Yucca Valley who was missing her older Terrier mix. This woman has owned “Grace” for the last 11 years. The current owner was given the dog in 2002 after a couple who found her in Palm Springs could no longer keep her. She was unaware that “Grace” had been micro-chipped. “Grace” has been claimed by her current owner, and has returned home to recover. The former owner and the current owner have agreed to contact each other, and will undoubtedly have some incredible information to share about the dog they have both loved for so long.
