FORMER PALM SPRINGS MAYOR SURRENDERS ON PUBLIC CORRUPTION CHARGES

Former Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet surrendered to authorities in Riverside yesterday following allegations of public corruption in Palm Springs. He’s facing bribery and conflict of interest charges from an estimated $375,000 paid to him from local developers Richard Meaney and John Wessman. Pougnet surrendered to police at about 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Robert Presley Detention Center. Pougnet’s arraignment date has been set for April 21 at the Riverside Hall of Justice. Wessman and Meaney are also facing charges alleging bribery of a public official, among others. They turned themselves in earlier and both posted $25,000 bail.
