FIREFIGHTERS GET 60 PERCENT CONTAINMENT ON NEARBY BOGART FIRE

Firefighters have gained 60 percent containment on the 1,470-acre Bogart fire in nearby Cherry Valley as fire activity dies down. A Cal Fire spokesman said the fire made no forward progress Wednesday. The increase in acreage—from 1,250 in the morning to 1,470 at 7 p.m.—was due to pockets of vegetation burning within the fire’s perimeter. “Smoke from the fire was not visible Wednesday from Interstate 10 in Beaumont. As firefighters gear up to continue trying to contain the fire Thursday, officials have the same concerns they had Wednesday: dry vegetation, strong winds and warm temperatures—the perfect recipe for explosive fire conditions.
