FIRE AT BURRTEC IN YUCCA VALLEY

Firefighters from across the Morongo Basin responded to a large fire at Burrtec in Yucca Valley Friday evening. According to County Fire Captain Dustin Krajeski, the first call came in at 5:17 p.m., and units from Yucca Valley, Yucca Mesa, Joshua Tree, Morongo Valley, CalFire, the Combat Center, and Twentynine Palms all responded. Krajeski said the half-acre trash fire at the recycling facility on Old Woman Springs Road and Buena Vista spread to nearby vegetation and threatened to jump Newton Lane to the east, before firefighters. The fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes, although mop up, using Burrtec’s skip loaders to spread the trash out to look for smoldering, took about 2 ½ hours. One firefighter received minor injuries; he was treated at the scene and then taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center as a precaution.
