Besides seats on the Yucca Valley Town Council and the Twentynine Palms City Council, seats are also open for other government agencies in the Morongo Basin. Any registered voters living within the districts’ boundaries can “pull” nomination papers beginning Monday, July 18. The open seats include: two seats on the Hi-Desert Water District; and three seats each on the Joshua Basin Water District, Hi-Desert Memorial Health Care District, and Morongo Unified School District. Except for the health care district, all candidates for these special district seats must get their paperwork to file for the election at the county elections office in San Bernardino. Candidates for the Yucca Valley Town Council and Twentynine Palms City Council may get their papers from the town/city clerk. The last day to file is Friday, August 12, unless an incumbent doesn’t run in which case the deadline will be extended by a week.
