FAMILY AND DOG SAFE AFTER YUCCA VALLEY DUPLEX FIRE

One dog was rescued, and a second dog died, in a house fire in Yucca Valley Tuesday. About 4:45 p.m. firefighters from Yucca Valley, Yucca Mesa, and Joshua Tree responded to a duplex fire in the 6400 block of Richard Drive, and found dark smoke billowing from the garage and kitchen of one unit of the duplex. Firefighters saved the other side of the duplex. All the residents were able to get out safely. Firefighters found one dog under a motorcycle in the garage; it suffered minor burns. A second dog died in the blaze, and two other dogs managed to escape safely, along with the family. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
