ENJOY JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK AFTER THE SUN GOES DOWN

Night time is the best time at Joshua Tree National Park. Park Ranger Pam Tripp has some options for nighttime hikers… Here in the desert of Joshua Tree National Park, summertime temperatures often climb above 100 degrees in the middle of the day. The heat can make hiking and climbing an unpleasant and dangerous experience for some visitors. During summer the best time to enjoy this beautiful park is after the sun has gone down. Although most nature trails and picnic areas are designated for day use only, there are many options available to nighttime hikers and stargazers. The Pinto Basin and eastern boundary of the park have the darkest night skies, but parking areas along Park Blvd in the northern part of the park offer visitors the opportunity to see planets, distant star clusters, and our galaxy: The Milky Way. A full moon hike is also a great way to experience nature’s sights and sounds. And remember… keep your safety in mind by having lots of water and appropriate supplies with you. Stop by any visitor center or call 760-367-5522 for help planning your nighttime adventure at Joshua Tree National Park. For Copper Mt. Broadcasting Z107.7 This is Park Ranger Pam Tripp, reminding you that half the park is after dark.
