DON’T MISS THEATRE 29’S ORIGINAL PLAY “ACTRESS”

Theatre 29’s newest production, the original play “Actress,” written and directed by Josh Lazar of Twentynine Palms, explores the themes of jealousy, regret, the road not taken, and what people are willing to do to achieve their dreams. Ten years ago, daughter Regina, played by Claire Burgi, ran off to Hollywood to become an actress. The action takes place when Regina, now an accomplished actress, returns home for the first time since she left. Regina’s sister, Bell, played by Veronica Kelly, simply radiates anger and animosity, which continue to build during the three acts. Kelly’s talent truly shines when she and Burgi re-enact Bell’s climatic scene from her high school play, and it’s a scene I can’t stop thinking about. Playing the lead is Jennie Floyd as the girls’ mother, who tries to make peace among her family, while her domineering husband, Mark Colbenson, can’t seem to forgive his daughter for leaving. Rounding out the cast is Anthony Specchio as Bell’s husband Jim, an easy-going guy who, like his mother-in-law, just wants everyone to get along. Director Lazar has assembled a very talented cast of actors, and this engrossing play draws you in to the family dynamics from the very beginning. Audiences are loving it and have given the actors a standing ovation. There are only three more performances of “Actress” – this Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m., and a 2:30 Sunday matinee.
