DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SEMINAR OFFERED NEXT WEEK

Morongo Basin professionals are getting educated on a subject that, directly or indirectly, effects almost all of us. Reporter David Haldane explains…
Have you or someone you know been touched by domestic violence? If so, you’re not alone; one in four women will experience it in their lives, and one in seven men.
Morongo Basin Unity Home and Hi-Desert Medical Center want to help. They’ll be conducting a professional caregiving seminar on the subject designed especially for medical and mental health volunteers and victim advocates. Among other things, Susanna Barnett, Unity Home’s executive director, will discuss different types of abuse, why victims stay in abusive relationships, what we know about batterers and how professionals can break the cycle of violence.
The free seminar is scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. October 6 in the Helen Gray Education Center at Hi-Desert Medical Center. To register, call 760-366-6182 or log on to hdmc.org.
