DESERT HOT SPRINGS MAN WITH LOADED GUN ARRESTED THURSDAY


A Desert Hot Springs man was arrested Thursday following a brief vehicle and foot pursuit. About 3:20 p.m., a local police sergeant was on patrol near West Drive and 2nd Street and attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver, later identified as Jorge Gilbert, 33, drove to the 66100 block of 1st Street, where he then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. He was captured after a short foot pursuit. During a search, police found a loaded handgun as well as illegal aerial fireworks. Gilbert was arrested for investigation of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition; carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a loaded firearm in public; possession of an unregistered firearm; resisting arrest; and possession of illegal fireworks. He was booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning with bail set at $70,000.
