A Desert Hot Springs man was formally charged Friday in the murder of a Cathedral City man in March. Police say that they received multiple calls of shots fired about 10:30 p.m. March 29 in the 66100 block of 6th Street in Desert Hot Springs. The victim, Jose Vargas, 23, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police determined Orlando Archuleta, 27, was a suspect in the murder and Friday, May 26, they presented the case to the Riverside County District Attorney’s office and he was charged the same day for Vargas’ murder. Orlando Archuleta was already in custody at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on a parole hold.
