DEPUTY-INVOLVED SHOOTING IN YUCCA VALLEY UNDER INVESTIGATION

Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Jody Miller released more information about an officer-involved shooting in Yucca Valley Monday morning. Miller said deputies responded to the area of Amador and Navajo Trail shortly before 8:00 a.m. after dispatchers received reports of a man, dressed in black, running through backyards in the neighborhood. Responding deputies located a man who matched the description in the wash just west of the Big Lots shopping center, south of the highway. The suspect was armed, and while deputies were attempting to take him into custody, he was shot and wounded by a deputy. A witness told Z107.7 News he heard three shots. Details on the circumstances of the shooting were not made available. The as-yet-unidentified man was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs with a gunshot wound. No deputies were injured during the incident. Because the shooting involved a deputy, the Sheriff’s Homicide Division is conducting the investigation. Due to law enforcement action nearby, Yucca Valley High School was placed on a precautionary lock down for a short time.
